Joel,

We were friends for so long though elementary school, Leeds, Central, Boy Scouts, SAR.  The memories of Terry are so strong, so many years later.  Both of you were kind, of good humor, and great friends for any adventure.  I take us back to Resica Falls, boy scout camp.  We were 13 or 14 years old and having a great time.  Terry and I went off on an adventure of our own, away from the camp activities. He and I decided to cross a stream.  I slipped and my leg got cut on a rock underwater.  It was a real bleeder.  When we go back to dry land he took off his t shirt and wrapperd it around my leg to stop the bleeding.  Ray Cohen (Marty's dad!) was our troop leader.  He was not pleased.  He shouted at us, "show me where in the Boy Scout manual it says to run off and cross a stream without the troop?"  He was livid, to say the least and stormed off.  I took him literally, and went about looking in the manual for anything that would indicate our adventure was in alignment with good scouting procedures.  Terry knew better, being the smarter of the two of us.  Sarcasm was not in my vocabulary yet.  So many other other memories of the two of you!  How about when in elementary school you dressed up as Zorro and none of us could figure out that it was you.  YOu had a nylon stocking over your head covering your face to obscure your features.  We all were amazed when we finally figured out who it was.

From Simon and Garfunkel:

Old friends, old friends Sat on their park bench like bookends A newspaper blown through the grass Falls on the round toes Of the high shoes of the old friends
Old friends, winter companions, the old men Lost in their overcoats, waiting for the sunset The sounds of the city sifting through trees Settle like dust on the shoulders of the old friends
Can you imagine us years from today Sharing a park bench quietly? How terribly strange to be 70
Old friends, memory brushes the same years Silently sharing the same fears

May his memory be for a blessing.  It's those moments that will live in us forever.

Larry! What a life. Certainly not surprising. You were always very driven. I read the comments from your students, and they love and respect you. Bravo!
