In Memory

Louis Stewart

It saddens me to report the demise of our brother Louis "Lou" Stewart yesterday at about 4:15 P.M. at his home in Columbia, MD, where he had been on hospice care for about a week. While we all remember the "laid back" Lou fondly, he was at the same time intensely the proud son of a WWII "Redtail fighter pilot and history buff tracing his own family's history in the U.S. as far as 1712. Following his graduation his graduation from Franklin and Marshall in 1973 he went on to certify as a C.P.A., then obtained his MBA from the University of Chicago, then following work at major accounting firms and multinational corporations followed his academic muse, obtaining his PhD in accounting at the University of Wisconsin in Madison. He went on to join the faculties of NYU, LIU, FAMU, Kean University, then finally as a tenured Associate Professor at Howard University. Of his many sources of pride, number one would always be his family: His oldest daughter, Patrice has for some time been an office manager at a firm in Chicago, daughter Jessica is now involved in a software startup in NYC, daughter Sarah is now a senior at Georgetown Law, having just completed in internship with the SEC. His only son, Louis Jr, who Lou had begun to coach for distance running is entering his senior year of high school in Columbia. We will sorely miss him.
