I remember him as a runner's runner and always kind to me as a very incompetent runner.

I stayed in touch with Gary through Freshman year of college and that was the last time I had any contact. When the reunion page opened he was one of the first people I looked to find. Reading about his death has had a big effect on my thinking about my own mortality. Gary I miss not being able to see and talk with you.

Gary was in my advisory for all four years. He was a good friend and a great person.

Gary was a football player. He was also a very sensitive guy. There were things he loved. He loved listening to the Fifth Dimension. He constantly played them when we were at his house. He sang them as we walked. We did alot of philosophical talking in the brief days after Central. He went to New York. Became a dancer. Gary was reaching for his art. I know many of us miss him and were shocked by his passing. We will continue to remember you fondly brother Gary. We will continue to remember you and our times. Richard Schwartz

I remember Gary, who seemed to smile a lot, and remember that he was on the track team. I also remember that we called him "EEEEEAsterling."

I remember when Gary got a B in Algebra. Mr. Adamo (sic) asked him to kill a bee by the window and he got it!

This was a shocker to me when it occurred (as most are). Gary was the first person I met at Central. Neither one of us knew anyone else in the Freshman class and were assigned to share a locker together (what a stroke of luck that was!). We hit it off right away and he was a very funny guy. Whichever one of us had the earlier lunch period, he had the choice of two lunches; sometimes you ended up with your own and sometimes you ended up with the other guy's. I was surprised to learn of his passing and think about him often. RIP, Gary.
